Everyone knows who the big winners were at the Oscars, but another topic that is always discussed is who wore what and who wore it best. The Oscars this year were loosely described as a mess and the people dressed like it, making this year a very flamboyant fashion edition. Here are this year’s Oscars fashion trends!

Gender in Fashion
A first very striking outfit came from Billy Porter. He wore a big, black velvet dress by Christian Siriano, while many actresses like Awkwafina, Amy Poehler and Elsie Fisher showed up in a menswear-inspired pantsuit. Playing with

There were, however, a lot of actresses dressed in big, pink, poofy dresses. Like Gemma Chan in a hot pink Valentino gown and Helen Mirren in a tulle Schiaparelli couture dress. They all became real-life princesses, which showed an opposite trend towards gender-bending.

Superwomen on the red carpet
Another trend that was spotted on the red carpet were elegant capes. They added a flair of drama to the outfits of Melissa McCarthy in a caped pant look by Brandon Maxwell and Glenn Close in a Carolina Herrera dress. Of course, Oscars fashion trends like capes are not new to the carpet but this year it was more pronounced than in previous years.

Men in color
By the men, we saw Oscars fashion trends arise in velvet suits, which was mostly contributed by Jason Momoa who wore a pale pink velvet suit by Karl Lagerfeld, which matched his wife’s dress.

Another man, who stood out on the red carpet was Spike Lee in a purple suit dedicated to Prince, which he matched with gold Jordan sneakers.

The classics
For those, that are looking for a more demure look, one of the Oscars fashion trends that never die is the sparkly form-fitted dresses that are worn by young A-list actresses. Like Brie Larson in her Céline dress.
