DESIGN DISTRICT 2019 EVENT
WHERE & WHEN
The 16th edition of Design District will take place on Van Nelle Factory, the iconic factory in the Rotterdam. Days of the fair: 5, 6 and 7 June 2019. This three-day event gathers together thousands of guests – 7,618 visitors just during the last edition. The location is also quite interesting place itself – the 10,000m2 factory, where more than 200 of the best brands will have the chance to meet each other and present their exceptional art designs. A big changes in the structure of Design District 2019 can be seen, particular emphasis has been highlighted about having a full-coverage experience: viewpoints are required to be compact so that designers would present only the top and latest products, hence making it the most possible “up-to-date trade fair”, in which it will be easy to navigate and recognize modern visions and trends.

“Plastic Whale” project extremely relevant to nowadays world pollution disaster. Its main idea is based on the concept of taking action to save ourselves and the planet from plastic: they started by simple plastic collecting events, after what they managed to construct new boats out of plastic materials and become a new highly appreciated and well-known company that is now receiving numerous funds and contributions. But they didn’t stop on achieved success and now they are building exclusive office furniture by using plastic collected from the Amsterdam Canal. The first professional plastic fishing company in the world is not planning to stop on the Netherland waters, the aim is to save the world and we can confidently say they are on the right way!
‘The benefit and disadvantage of open working environments’ by De Architect

As we know the open working environment has become a trend in the last couple of years, however often it does not work out right for the work processes of some companies. The main topics will cover questions such as: What are the requirements for healthy working environments? And how can the working environment and work processes be coordinated?
Additionally to the best-world designers and artists, there are event will present 20 emerging designers ready to show their unique vision to the Netherlands and the whole world. The special presentation will be held in the old distribution center.
Willem de Kooning and HMC Students
Product Design students from the Willem de Kooning Academywill introduce their designs for the second time at the Design District 2019. You can’t miss a unique opportunity to see works of first-year students and recent alumni in the long hall towards the Distribution Center. Talented students from the HMC college will be presented in Hall 2.
